GUID Generator
Create new GUIDs in the format Windows, .NET and SQL Server tools expect, one at a time or a thousand at once.
Generate GUIDs Online
If you work with Windows, .NET, COM, the registry or SQL Server, you call them GUIDs; everyone else says UUIDs. They are the same 128-bit identifiers, and the only differences you will meet in practice are formatting conventions: uppercase or lowercase, with or without braces.
This page opens the UUID Generator with random version 4, uppercase and braces switched on, which is the classic registry style.
GUID formats at a glance
| Format | Example | Where you see it |
|---|---|---|
| Registry (B, upper) | {F47AC10B-58CC-4372-A567-0E02B2C3D479} | Registry, COM CLSIDs, Visual Studio project files |
| .NET default (D) | f47ac10b-58cc-4372-a567-0e02b2c3d479 | Guid.ToString(), JSON APIs |
| No hyphens (N) | f47ac10b58cc4372a5670e02b2c3d479 | Compact keys, file names |
| URN | urn:uuid:f47ac10b-58cc-4372-a567-0e02b2c3d479 | XML and standards documents |
Every one of these is available with the checkboxes above the output, and they can be combined with bulk generation.
Creating GUIDs in Microsoft tools
- C#:
Guid.NewGuid(), formatted with.ToString("B").ToUpperInvariant()for registry style. - PowerShell:
[guid]::NewGuid()orNew-Guid. - SQL Server:
NEWID()for random values,NEWSEQUENTIALID()as a column default. - Visual Studio: Tools, Create GUID.
Bulk GUIDs for test data
Seeding a database or writing fixtures often needs dozens of identifiers. Set the count, choose SQL output to get a ready VALUES list, or JSON for an array you can paste into a test. Nothing is sent to a server, so generating GUIDs for internal systems leaks nothing.

Lowercase and without braces is simply a UUID v4. For identifiers that sort by creation time, use UUID v7, which .NET 9 also supports through Guid.CreateVersion7().
