AVIF to JPG Converter
Turn AVIF images into JPG files that every app, editor and upload form accepts, without sending them anywhere.
Convert AVIF to JPG Online
AVIF has become common on websites and in some phone and camera exports, because it is often half the size of a JPG with the same visible quality. The catch is compatibility: save an AVIF from a web page and there is a fair chance your photo viewer, an older editor or a form on some government site refuses it. JPG is the format everything accepts.
This page is the Image Converter with JPG preselected. The conversion uses the AVIF decoder built into your browser, so it only works in a browser that can display AVIF, which today means any current version of the big four.
Expect a bigger file
A JPG made from an AVIF is usually larger than the original, sometimes two or three times larger, because AVIF simply compresses better. That is normal: the conversion is about compatibility. If size matters, combine it with a resize rule or lower the quality to 75 or 80, which is still hard to tell apart from the original for photos.
What does not survive the conversion
- Transparency: painted white, because JPG has no alpha channel.
- Animation: an animated AVIF becomes a single still image.
- Metadata: camera details and GPS location are not copied into the JPG.
- HDR: the image is converted to standard range as your browser displays it.
Other ways to handle AVIF
To keep a transparent background, convert AVIF to PNG instead. To put several AVIF images into one document, use Image to PDF. If you are publishing images yourself, WebP is the more widely supported modern format; see JPG to WebP.
