Check and Remove GPS Data from a Photo

Most phones save the exact position where each photo was taken, unless location access is turned off for the camera. Anyone who gets the original file can read it. This page opens the EXIF Viewer & Remover, which shows whether a photo has a location and removes it along with the other hidden data.

What the location reveals

A photo of your garden, your desk or your child in their room can point straight to your address. Several photos from the same places show your routine: where you live, work and spend weekends. The date stored next to the location shows when you were there.

When photos keep their location

  • Files sent as documents in messaging apps, rather than as photos.
  • Email attachments and cloud sharing links.
  • Marketplace listings, forums and small websites that keep the original file.

Large social networks usually remove the location from the public copy, but you cannot rely on it everywhere. Cleaning the file yourself is the safe habit.
