Convert PNG to JPG Online

PNG is lossless, which makes it perfect for screenshots of text and for graphics with sharp edges, but it produces heavy files for anything photographic. JPG trades a little invisible detail for a much smaller file, which is what email attachments, upload forms and most websites want.

This page opens the Image Converter with JPG selected. The conversion happens entirely in your browser tab.

JPG cannot store transparency, so the converter paints transparent pixels white before encoding. Convert to PNG or WebP when a logo or icon needs to keep its see-through background.

Should this PNG become a JPG?

Picking the quality

The slider sets how aggressively JPG compresses. For photos, 80 to 90 gives files that look identical to the original at a normal viewing size. Screenshots with small text benefit from 90 or more, because JPG compression shows first as faint noise around letters. Each result shows the old and new file size, so you can try a value, compare and convert again.

Transparency becomes white

A PNG can have see-through pixels; a JPG cannot. Before encoding, the converter paints the whole canvas white and draws your image on top, so a logo on a transparent background ends up on a white square. If that is not what you want, convert PNG to WebP, which keeps transparency and is still much smaller than PNG.

Meeting an upload limit

Many forms ask for a JPG under a certain file size or dimension. For the file size, choose To a target size in the Compression menu and type the limit in KB: the converter lowers the quality until each file fits and shrinks the image only when that is not enough. It counts a kilobyte as 1024 bytes, while a form may count 1,000, so for a 200 KB limit enter 190. For a dimension, use the resize option, for example a Max width of 1600 px. Metadata such as the camera model or GPS position is not copied into the new file, which is useful before you share a picture publicly.
