Why are some fields pointers?

They were null in the sample. A pointer lets Go tell a missing or null value apart from an empty one.

What does omitempty do?

It leaves the field out when encoding if it has its zero value. It is added to keys that were missing from some items.

Why ID instead of Id?

Go style writes initialisms such as ID, URL and API in capitals, and the generator follows it. The json tag keeps the original key.

Is my JSON sent anywhere?

No. Everything happens in your browser.

Types used

Whole numbers become int64, others float64, arrays become slices such as []string, and values of mixed type become interface{}. Nested objects become their own structs, named after their key.
