Hex to Decimal Converter
Paste a hex value, with or without 0x, and read it in decimal, binary and octal as you type.
Convert Hex to Decimal Online
Hexadecimal is how programmers write bytes: memory addresses, error codes, Unicode code points, MAC addresses and hash digests. Reading one as an ordinary number is what this page does. It is the Number Base Converter with hexadecimal selected as the input base.
The method
Each hex digit is worth 16 times the digit to its right. For 1A3: 1 × 256 + 10 × 16 + 3 × 1 = 256 + 160 + 3 = 419.
| Hex digit | Decimal | Binary |
|---|---|---|
A | 10 | 1010 |
B | 11 | 1011 |
C | 12 | 1100 |
D | 13 | 1101 |
E | 14 | 1110 |
F | 15 | 1111 |
Common hex values
0xFF= 255, one full byte.0xFFFF= 65535, the largest 16-bit unsigned value.0x7FFFFFFF= 2147483647, the largest signed 32-bit integer.0x10000= 65536, the first Unicode code point outside the Basic Multilingual Plane.
Where hex numbers turn up
Error codes such as 0x80070005, memory addresses in a stack trace, byte values in a packet capture and Unicode code points such as U+00E9 are all hexadecimal. Converting to decimal is the quickest way to compare one with a limit, look it up in a table written in decimal, or check it fits in a given number of bits; the note under the results shows the bit length.
