Meta Tag Generator - SEO, Open Graph and X Card Tags with Live Previews

The title and description in a page's head decide how it looks in Google, and the Open Graph and X tags decide how a shared link looks on Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Slack and X. This tool writes all of them from one short form and shows the three previews as you type, so you can see a title being cut off before your readers do.

Nothing is sent to a server. The only request the page makes is to load your share image from its own address, to show it in the previews.

How to use it

  1. Fill in the Page title, Description, Page address (canonical URL) and Share image URL.
  2. Watch the counters and the Google, Facebook and X previews.
  3. Choose the Content type, the X card style and, if you have one, the X account.
  4. Press Copy and paste the code inside the page's <head>.

To improve an existing page, press Read tags from HTML, paste the page source and press Fill in. The pasted HTML is only read, never run.

Length limits

Google cuts titles by width, at roughly 580 pixels, which is about 60 characters of ordinary text; wide letters such as W and M use the room up sooner. Descriptions are usually cut after about 155 to 160 characters on desktop and fewer on phones. The counters turn orange when you pass the comfortable length and red when the text will almost certainly be cut.

After you publish

  • Social networks keep a cached copy of each link's preview. Use the Facebook Sharing Debugger or LinkedIn Post Inspector to make them read the new tags.
  • Google chooses its own snippet when the page text matches a search better than your description, and may rewrite titles that do not describe the page.
  • Each page should have its own title and description; repeating the same ones across a site makes the results look alike.
