Convert WebP to PNG Online
Stickers, logos, icons and product cut-outs downloaded from the web are increasingly WebP files with transparent backgrounds. Converting them to JPG would flatten that transparency onto white, so PNG is the format to choose when an editor, slide program or older app will not open WebP.
This page opens the Image Converter with PNG selected. The images are decoded and written in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
PNG or JPG for a WebP file?
| The WebP is… | Convert to | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| A logo, icon, sticker or cut-out | PNG | Keeps the transparent background and sharp edges |
| A screenshot or diagram | PNG | Text and lines stay crisp |
| A photograph | JPG | Much smaller file with no visible difference |
How transparency is preserved
WebP and PNG both carry an alpha channel: a fourth value per pixel that says how see-through it is. The converter draws the decoded image onto a transparent canvas and exports PNG, so fully transparent areas stay empty and soft edges such as shadows keep their partial transparency. Nothing is painted behind the image the way it is for JPG.
File size expectations
Expect the PNG to be larger than the WebP, sometimes much larger for photographic content. That is the trade-off for a lossless file that every program understands. If size matters, reduce the dimensions with the resize option while converting, or keep a WebP for the web and a PNG only for the tool that needs it.
Working with the result
- Drag the PNG into design tools, presentation software or documents that reject WebP.
- Edit and re-save it as often as you like without extra compression loss.
- Need it back on a website later? PNG to WebP restores a light file with transparency.
